The Department of Biology at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, seeks applications for a two tenure track positions at the Assistant Professor level. Appointment will begin August 10, 2025. Duties include research, teaching, and service to the University. The applicant is expected to establish and maintain an innovative, externally funded research program that attracts and inspires a highly motivated student body of undergraduate and master’s students. Annual teaching duties will include engaging undergraduate courses, averaging 2 courses per semester with labs counting as courses.
Position 1: Cell and Molecular Biology
We welcome applications from cell biologists whose research and teaching expertise emphasizes molecular level mechanisms within a biomedical context. Both basic and translational research experience and plans are valued. Applicants should consider if their research can be done with undergraduate researchers and with biosafety levels not to exceed BSL-2. Teaching duties will include a large mid-level Molecular Cell Biology course along with cell biology-related lecture and lab courses.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in cell biology or a related field and have had at least 18 months of relevant postdoctoral experience by the time appointment begins (August 10, 2025).
Preferred Qualifications: Evidence of research productivity as a postdoc. Previous instructional experience with cell biology related lecture and lab courses and an established record of mentoring successful undergraduate and junior researchers is preferred. Evidence of successful grantsmanship (e.g., for nationally competitive or other awards) will be considered a plus.

Position 2: Biostatistics/Bioinformatics
We welcome applicants with research and teaching expertise in bioinformatics and biostatistics. Applicants whose research is focused on or extensively utilizes bioinformatics will be considered; those whose research also includes an experimental component in the lab or field are especially encouraged to apply. Teaching duties will include biostatistics, bioinformatics, and other lecture and seminar-style courses in the applicant’s area of expertise.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in biology, biostatistics, bioinformatics, or a related field at the time appointment begins (August 10, 2025).
Preferred Qualifications: Previous teaching experience in bioinformatics and/or biostatistics and an established record of mentoring undergraduates and/or graduate research is preferred. Evidence of scholarly achievement, including peer-reviewed publications in competitive outlets and nationally competitive grants or other awards, will be viewed favorably. Postdoctoral experience preferred, with one or more years particularly desirable.
