Physics Astronomy

The main projects focus on the dynamics of dwarf galaxies and the Milky Way and Andromeda satellite systems, and the multiple stellar populations in globular clusters, respectively. Involvement in projects related to the Galactic Center and stellar streams is also possible. The research involves either observational data analysis, theoretical dynamical modeling, and/or data-model comparisons.

The research will involve scientific analysis and publication, data reduction, and proposals for new observations with the Hubble Space Telescope (HST), The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), and large ground-based facilities.

The Space Telescope Science Institute invites applications for a Postdoctoral Position to work with Dr. Andrew Fruchter on astrophysical transients. In this position, you will contribute to a new, large Hubble Space Telescope program to study electromagnetic signals from gravitational mergers as well as programs using HST and the Chandra X-ray observatory to investigate the energetics and astrophysical origins of gamma-ray bursts.
