Pediatric Psychologist – Integrated Behavioral Health

Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

We are seeking a full-time pediatric psychologist position providing consultation, intervention and supportive services to children, adolescents, and families as part of collaborative team within our hospital’s Integrated Behavioral Health (IBH) Service. The focus of the position is to provide services within our ambulatory subspecialty clinic divisions collaborating in the care of children, adolescents, and young adults with a range of medical conditions. We are specifically seeking a psychologist with expertise and strong interest in healthy weight/bariatrics, G/I, and feeding and eating related disorders.This role will involve supporting the patients, families, and medical teams primarily in the outpatient specialty setting, with opportunities to follow patients when medically admitted as indicated. The psychologist will also provide consultative support and coverage across other ambulatory specialty services, such as endocrinology, allergy, and cardiology as needed. Additionally, the psychologist will utilize clinical time to supervise doctoral-level psychology students and fellows working within the service.

The position carries an academic appointment within the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, which is one of only two independent child and adolescent psychiatry departments within an academic medical center in the nation.

The IBH psychologist hired in this role will report to the Director of Psychology, Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital. Supervision and mentorship will also be available from other seasoned psychologists in the Department and across the NYU health system.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide consultation to medical providers across healthy weight/bariatrics, G/I, and feeding and eating related disorders, as well as consultative support to endocrinology, allergy, and cardiology as needed
  • Provide pediatric evaluations, interventions, and therapy to patients and families as part of medical treatment, with occasional time spent on the inpatient unit when known patients are admitted and in need of ongoing support
  • Assess and provide interventions for patients with acute and chronic medical conditions, adjustment to diagnosis, anxiety and depression, pain, behavioral non-adherence, and other mental health needs
  • Assess behavioral concerns, develop behavior management plans, provide parent training
  • Consult and collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to partner on referrals and offer consultation on a variety of psychosocial issues
  • Chart patient visits using an electronic medical record
  • Triage and refer patients as needed to collaborating colleagues across disciplines, departments, and communities
  • Provide teaching and supervision of residents, psychology and other trainees
  • Participate in training Department of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry trainees
  • Contribute to quality improvement and clinical research efforts within these patient populations
  • Collaborate on programmatic development for the IBH care continuum
  • Participating in continuing education such as weekly Case Conference and Grand Rounds Conducting public workshops, provide written content for the NYU website

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or Psy.D. from an APA- or CPA- accredited psychology program
  • An internship with experience in pediatric psychology and completion of a postdoctoral fellowship in a hospital or related medical setting is preferred
  • Licensed or license eligible in the State of New York
  • Demonstrated expertise in psychological assessments and intervention with children, adolescents and young adults with comorbid medical conditions
  • Demonstrated experience in working with pediatric gastroenterology populations and teams
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of health care professionals
  • Prior experience supervising psychology trainees
  • Familiarity with clinical research and data analysis is a plus

Preferred Qualifications

Prior clinical experience in pediatric psychology settings. Prior experience in program development and evidence-based assessment of patients with acute and chronic medical conditions and their families. Strong interest in clinical supervision, quality improvement, and research.

  • Minimum Annual Salary: $111,351
  • Maximum Annual Salary: $116,792

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The annual salary range for a junior faculty role is $111,351 to $116,792. Candidates who qualify for higher faculty appointments are also encouraged to apply. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including faculty appointment, credentials, research history, specialty, and health system need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
