Assistant Professor in Biology/Director of the Master of Science Program in Biotechnology

The Department of Biology and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Brandeis University invites applications for a full-time Director of the Master of Science Program in Biotechnology, beginning in Academic Year 2025-2026. This is a renewable position with an initial appointment of up to three years, contingent on a positive performance review after the first year.

The Director will join a dynamic community of faculty and administrators who collaborate closely with students in an interdisciplinary program that integrates advanced training in science and business. The Brandeis Master of Science in Biotechnology program leverages the expertise of the university’s Life Sciences departments and the Brandeis International Business School (BIBS), providing students with an immersive, student-centered experience that encompasses laboratory training, professional development, and industry internships.

The Director will teach four courses annually. These typically include BIOT 201 (Business of Biotechnology), BIOT 203 (Fundamentals of Management for Biotechnology), and BIOT 205 (Master’s Proseminar). The Director will also have the opportunity to teach a fourth course that aligns with their expertise. In addition to classroom instruction, the Director will coordinate and oversee the BIOT 212 (Biotechnology Internship) course, assisting students in securing and completing summer internships. The Director will also supervise independent research projects through BIOT 293 (Biotechnology Research), which is offered every semester. The Director will coordinate admissions, recruitment, and student advising. The role encompasses managing collaborations with the Heller School of Social Policy and Management and BIBS, and affiliation with the National Professional Science Master’s Association.

Qualifications:

A PhD, MBA, or other advanced degree in Biotechnology, Life Sciences, or a related field is required. Industry experience in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or a related sector is highly desirable. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in teaching and/or academic program management, as well as strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
